What to Expect From a Niagen® Series After 50: A Visit-by-Visit Guide for Mesa

The East Valley is full of active adults over 50: hikers at Usery Mountain, golfers across Mesa and Gilbert, and plenty of winter visitors who come for the sunshine and stay for the lifestyle. More and more of them are asking us about Niagen®. Once they understand what it is, they want to know what a series actually looks like.
First, the honest part: there's no fountain of youth
Nothing reverses aging. Niagen® is a branded form of nicotinamide riboside (NR), a vitamin B3 compound your body converts into NAD+, a coenzyme involved in cellular energy metabolism. A study of human skin samples found NAD+ levels tend to be lower with age [1], and that's the reason NR has drawn so much scientific interest.
Why Niagen® is popular with adults over 50
- It's one of the most studied NAD+ precursors in humans [2–6].
- Trials in middle-aged and older adults found NR raised NAD+ levels and was well tolerated [3,4].
- Early research in older men found NR increased NAD+-related metabolites in muscle and was associated with lower levels of some inflammatory markers [5].
- It fits a "healthspan" approach alongside exercise, sleep, nutrition, and hydration, which matters a lot in our dry desert climate.
Not every study found benefits. One trial saw no improvement in insulin sensitivity in men with obesity [6], and most published research studied oral NR rather than IV or injections.
Visit 1: Consultation and your first session
Every visit starts with a free consultation with our Licensed Medical Professionals at our Red Mountain Gateway location. We'll review your health history and medications, talk about your goals, and help you choose between:
- Niagen® IV infusion: a seated session in our spa-like lounge.
- Niagen® injection: a quick option when you're short on time.
Visits 2–3: Building consistency
Many guests choose a 4-pack series so their visits are planned in advance. Consistency tends to matter more than any single session. Between visits, keep up the basics: hydration, protein-rich meals, movement, and good sleep.
Visit 4: Check in and decide next steps
At the end of a series, we'll check in on how you've felt. Experiences vary, and some people may not notice a difference. Our team will help you decide whether to continue, adjust, or stop.
Tips to get the most from your series
- Hydrate before you come in, especially in Arizona's dry air.
- Eat a light meal beforehand.
- Book your series in advance so it fits your calendar.
- Keep your doctor in the loop, especially if you take medications.
The research, study by study
Here's what each of the key human trials looked at, so you know what's behind the conversation:
- Absorption (2016): 12 healthy adults took single oral doses of 100, 300, or 1,000 mg, and blood NAD+-related compounds rose with dose [2].
- Adults 55–79 (2018): 30 healthy adults took 1,000 mg/day for six weeks. NR was well tolerated, and blood-cell NAD+ was about 60% higher than placebo [3].
- Eight weeks, three doses (2019): In 140 healthy overweight adults, whole-blood NAD+ rose 22% to 142% by dose, with side effects similar to placebo [4].
- Older muscle (2019): In 12 men aged 70–80, three weeks of NR raised NAD+-related compounds in muscle and lowered some inflammatory markers, without changing mitochondrial bioenergetics [5].
- A null result (2018): In 40 men with obesity, 12 weeks of NR was safe but didn't improve insulin sensitivity [6].
All five studies used oral NR. Evidence on IV and injectable Niagen is more limited, and our team will be clear about that during your consultation.
Setting realistic expectations
A good series starts with realistic expectations. Here's what we tell guests:
- Some people notice a difference; some don't. Individual experiences vary.
- It isn't a quick fix. Niagen may support cellular energy as part of a healthy routine, not in place of one.
- Track how you feel. A simple note on sleep, energy, and activity each week can help you and our team decide what's working.
- Your doctor is part of the team. Keep them informed, especially if you take medications.
Healthy aging in the East Valley
Mesa's climate is a big part of its appeal, especially in winter. It also comes with a few things to keep in mind:
- Desert air is dry. You can lose more fluid than you realize, even on cool days.
- Sun exposure adds up. Sun protection matters on the trails and the golf course.
- Stay active year-round. Use cooler months for hiking Usery Mountain or the Superstition foothills, and move indoors in the summer heat.
- Strength training matters. It supports balance and mobility as you age.
Why a 4-pack series?
Many Mesa guests choose a 4-pack of Niagen IV infusions or injections. It helps with:
- Consistency: visits are planned, so they don't slip off your calendar.
- Predictability: you know what to expect for the weeks ahead.
- Check-ins: a series gives our team multiple chances to see how you're doing and adjust.

Who should check with a doctor first
Talk with your physician before starting Niagen if you are pregnant or nursing, are undergoing cancer treatment, have kidney, liver, or heart conditions, or take multiple prescription medications. Winter visitors should also keep their home-state doctor in the loop. Bring a full list of your medications and supplements to your consultation so our Licensed Medical Professionals can review it with you. If anything raises a question, we'll recommend checking with your physician before your first session. That's part of doing this the right way.
